UK: PhD Studentship in Advanced Unsteady CFD Technologies
The School of Engineering of Glasgow University seeks a graduate student to carry out a PhD research project in the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) group. The programme of study concerns the development and application of advanced technologies for the analysis of wind and gas turbine unsteady aerodynamics and aeroelasticity. The work includes further analyses, implementation and use of advanced CFD capabilities based on the Navier-Stokes equations such as frequency-domain integration methods, low-speed preconditioning and parallel computing based on Graphics Processing Units (GPU?s). This research has high industrial relevance, and it is carried out in collaboration with several companies and other research institutes.
The PhD candidate for this post will hold a First Class degree in one of the following fields: aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, mathematical modelling and scientific computing or a related area. The successful applicant will have good analytical and modelling skills, and sound knowledge of fluid dynamics and/or aerodynamics. Basic knowledge of the following applications would be an advantage: FORTRAN and/or C/C++ and/or MATLAB, CFD and grid generation software.
Enthusiasm and determination in exploring original ideas as well as good team spirit are essential qualities of the successful candidate. Very good spoken and written English is essential. This scholarship would provide University fees and stipend ONLY for students holding British or other EU citizenship, and would last 3 years.
