American Water Works Association - Thomas R. Camp Scholarship

Sponsored by Camp Dresser and McKee, Inc., the Thomas R. Camp Scholarship provides support to outstanding students doing applied research in the drinking water field. It is awarded to doctoral students in even years and Masters students in odd years. You are eligible to apply if you are pursuing a graduate degree at an institution of higher education located in Canada, Guam, Puerto Rico, Mexico or the United States. Applicants are considered without regard to color, gender, race, creed or country of origin.

Overview

Throughout his distinguished career, Dr. Thomas R. Camp (1895–1971) advanced state-of-the-art engineering and technology in the drinking water field. His early years were spent as a practicing engineer, followed by a professorship at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Subsequently, he became co-founder and senior partner of Camp Dresser & McKee, Inc., the international environmental consulting firm. During his career he displayed a relentless passion for learning and research. The water treatment processes that Dr. Camp developed for mixing, flocculation and sedimentation set standards for the industry. Other contributions included the advancement of dual-media filters, porous underdrains, and direct filtration of municipal water supplies. Camp Dresser & McKee created the Thomas R. Camp Scholarship in honor of the contributions of Dr. Camp to support and encourage outstanding graduate students conducting applied research in the drinking water field.

Eligibility

You are eligible to apply if you are pursuing a graduate degree (either masters or doctoral) at an institution of higher education located in Canada, Guam, Puerto Rico, Mexico or the United States. Applicants should anticipate completion of their degree requirements no sooner than December 1, 2009. Applicants are considered without regard to color, gender, race, creed or country of origin.

Time Schedule

Completed applications for the Thomas R. Camp Scholarship must be received no later than January 15, 2009. The scholarship recipient will be notified by May 1, 2009 and support will be available for the fall of 2009.

Payment Information

The value of this scholarship is USD5000 (maximum per award). This award is to be used for fees. This scholarship is paid as a one off for the period of 1 year.

Research Information

This scholarship is for one of the following fields of research: BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES, Environmental sciences, Hydrology or Soil and water sciences.
