The University of Edinburgh Undergraduate Bursaries
Over 180 bursaries will be awarded for undergraduate study to UK students from schools or colleges in the UK who are experiencing financial difficulties in taking up their place of admission at the University of Edinburgh. The minimum value of each award is £1,000 per annum which will be paid at the start of each academic session towards maintenance costs and will be tenable for the duration of the undergraduate programme of study subject to satisfactory academic progress.
Eligibility Criteria
In considering applications the main criterion will be significant financial need, but the University will also take account of other personal or family circumstances which might make it difficult for you to take up a University place. In awarding these bursaries no account will be taken of academic merit, since it is assumed that those who receive an offer of a place have fully demonstrated their ability and potential to benefit from Higher Education.
As part of the application you are required to answer a number of questions relating to your personal and financial circumstances and in addition you are requested to provide a personal statement. You are also required to provide a supporting reference from your school or college or from another appropriate professional. The assessment of your need will be based entirely on the information you give and in the accompanying supporting reference. The bursaries are not means-tested.
Applicants should:
1) Be attending or have recently left a school or college in the UK and are resident in the UK. Applications from mature students (21 years or over) will be treated on an equal basis with those from younger applicants. Students who have applied for part-time study can also be considered for a pro rata award.
2) Have applied for admission to the University of Edinburgh for a place starting in September on year of entry. You do not need to wait for a response from the University before applying for a bursary - you can apply at any time prior to the deadline of 30th June 2008. To receive an award you will also need to receive and firmly accept an offer, either conditional or unconditional, of a place at the University. Students taking a year out before entering the University are eligible for consideration, but if seeking deferred entry, should apply for a bursary in the year prior to entry, not at the time of their original application. Other than Divinity applicants, only students accepted for their first undergraduate degree will be eligible for consideration.
